On February 8, OPPO, the world's leading smart device company, announced its having reached a patent licensing agreement with Via Licensing Corporation ("Via"), which is a cooperative patent licensing company, and obtained Via Licensing's Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) patent pool license. This global patent license agreement includes OPPO smartphones sold globally, which currently ranks fourth in the world in terms of mobile phone sales.

Lin Weizhi, the head of patent licensing at OPPO, said: "It’s our pleasure to sign a patent licensing agreement with Via Licensing's AAC patent pool. Via has always been committed to balancing the interests of licensors and implementers. We will continue to advocate the establishment of a long-term healthy intellectual property ecosystem, advocating the settlement of intellectual property licenses via friendly consultations and mutual respect for the value of patents."

Heath Hoglund, the chairman of Via Licensing, said: "We are happy to sign a patent licensing agreement with OPPO. They have mature experience and propositions in global patent licensing, and have always been committed to bringing innovative products to global users."

AAC is a set of audio coding methods led by the ISO/IEC standard organization, allowing consumers to enjoy high-quality audio with high compression efficiency, reducing the amount of data transmitted and the processing power required for playback. At present, nearly 1,000 companies around the world have licensed the audio compression standard through a patent pool managed by Via Licensing.
