【GE CHENG News】Chinese enterprises account for half of 5G standard essential patents with Huawei ranking first, and Xiaomi entering the top 10 for the first time

Recently, CAICT (China Academy of Information and Communications Technology) released the "Research Report on Global 5G Standard-Essential Patents and Standard Proposals (2023)". This year, a total of 5 Chinese brands are included in the top 10 list, one more than that of last year, now making up half of all. Among these, Huawei's 5G standard essential patents rank first worldwide, and Xiaomi enters the top ten for the first time with a high growth rate.

 

It is learned that the report is based on a statistical analysis of all 5G declared patents and their extended patents in the ETSI patent database as of December 31, 2022. Among the industrial entities that ETSI declares 5G standard essential patents, the number of effective global patents for the top 10 enterprises accounts for more than 75% of all patent families, basically reflecting the main trend of global 5G standard essential patent activities.

 

In terms of the proportion of effective global patent families, Huawei accounts for 14.59%, ranking first; Qualcomm ranks second, accounting for 10.04%; Samsung ranks third with o proportion of 8.80%. Companies ranking fourth to tenth are ZTE, LG, Nokia, Ericsson, Datang, OPPO, and Xiaomi.
