On January 20, 2026, Nokia, a global leader in communications technology, announced it has made a new bilateral patent license agreement with a leading Chinese automaker, showing another significant advancement for Nokia in intellectual property licensing in the field of intelligent connected vehicles, marking a deeper and broader phase of its collaboration with China’s automotive industry.

Under the agreement, the Chinese automaker will incorporate Nokia's cellular technologies from 2G to 5G, as well as its core Wi-Fi technologies, into its connected vehicles production. These technologies form the foundation for enabling key functions such as online navigation, emergency calls, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and in-vehicle entertainment connectivity.

This signing indicates a milestone in Nokia's cooperation with the Chinese automotive industry. Susanna revealed that Nokia has already signed patent license agreements with five Chinese automakers.

The series of collaborations demonstrates that the value of core technology patents has become an industry consensus amid the wave of intelligence and connectivity sweeping the automotive industry. Adhering to rules and acquiring advanced technologies through compliant licensing is becoming an inevitable choice for mainstream automakers to ensure product competitiveness and market access.
