China ranks first globally in the effective amount of invention patents

According to the press conference on January 16, in 2022, China granted a total of 798,000 invention patents, 2.804 million utility model patents, 721,000 industrial design patents, and accepted 74,000 PCT international patent applications.
By the end of 2022, the effective amount of invention patents in China is 4.212 million, among which, the effective number of domestic (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) invention patents is 3.28 million. China is the first country in the world with more than 3 million effective domestic invention patents, and the number of high-value invention patents has reached 1.324 million, a year-on-year increase of 24.2%, accounting for more than 40% of the effective amount of invention patents. The latest World Intellectual Property Indicators report released by WIPO also shows that China has ranked first globally in the effective amount of invention patents.
By the end of 2022, there has been 355,000 domestic companies with valid invention patents in China, an increase of 57,000 from the previous year, and 2.324 million valid invention patents, a year-on-year increase of 21.8%. High-tech enterprises and specialized and special new "little giant" enterprises have 1.512 million effective invention patents, accounting for 65.1% of the total number of domestic enterprises, an increase of 0.5% over the same period of last year. The innovation vitality of Chinese enterprises has been continually enhanced.
Furthermore, the data show that technological innovation in the digital field is increasingly active. According to the statistics of 35 technical fields classified by WIPO, by the end of 2022, China's information technology management, computer technology and other digital technology fields have the fastest growth in effective invention patents, with a year-on-year increase of 59.6% and 28.8% respectively. In 2022, the number of invention patents granted in the core industries of China's digital economy was 325,000, a year-on-year increase of 17.9%, showing its growing patent reserve.
