Avanci announces 5G connected car license rate, with Huawei, Coolpad and other Chinese companies involved
2025-05-07
On August 16, Avanci announced the launch of the 5G connected car project, which is to simplify the licensing process for next-generation connected cars to obtain cellular technology. Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) allows a full range of connectivity and communications between vehicles and surrounding cars, pedestrians, and traffic infrastructure. It is reported that the Avanci 5G vehicle project includes standard essential patents for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, including cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X), which are essential to the realization of connected functions in cars. At the same time, the project announced the 5G licensing rate and the latest list of licensees and licensors.
After the release of the licensing project, Mercedes-Benz became the first licensee of the Avanci 5G vehicle project. There are now 58 companies from around the world participating in the project such as Huawei, China Mobile, China Unicom, Datang Mobile TCL, ZTE, and many other companies that have also become the first batch of licensees for the Avanci 5G vehicle project.
Avanci's launch of the 5G connected car licensing project indicates that the 5G license rate (including 2G\3G\4G license) is US$32 per vehicle, however, the license rate for early licensees will have a discount of US$3 per vehicle. That is to say, if a 5G license agreement is signed before February 16, 2024, or before the first sale of a 5G-connected car (whichever is later), and other terms are accepted, the license rate can be reduced to US$29.
The licensing rate for the 5G connected car project released this time will be changed, which is different from the Avanci 4G vehicle project 7 years ago. The previous 4G vehicle project regulated that during the license period, whether it is the increase in the number of 2G, 3G, or 4G standard essential patents, or the addition of new patent holders (even if all standard essential patent holders join), or the number of connection points, the Avanci 4G vehicle project license rate will not change.
