2025-05-07
Recently, patent operating company Sisvel announced that Huawei has joined its Cellular Internet of Things (C-IoT) patent pool.
It is reported that on November 9, 2022, Sisvel launched the C-IoT patent pool, which is composed of 20 patent owners, including ASUS, Datang Telecom, Ericsson, Mitsubishi Electric, NTT DOCOMO, Optis Cellular, Optis Wireless, Shanghai Langbo, Sony, Unwired Planet, etc.
The C-IoT Patent Pool provides a single solution for licensing standard essential patents (SEP) that are crucial to the use of cellular LPWAN standards for LTE-M and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), the patent pool’s licensing market initially focuses on smart meters and asset trackers.
It is pointed out by Sisvel that LTE-M and NB-IoT are cellular LPWAN IoT standards following the 4G LTE standard, and both of them provide a solution for low-power connectivity of IoT products that can compete with features offered by many other technologies, such as LoRaWAN, Sigfox, WiFi, MIOTY, Bluetooth, various mesh networking technologies, etc. and their combinations.
