1. Patent

In January 2025, the number of authorized invention patents in China was 63,000, the number of authorized utility model patents was 141,000, and the number of authorized design patents was 50,000.

As of the end of January 2025, the number of valid invention patents in China was 5.735 million. Among them, there were 4.728 million valid domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). The effective number of utility model patents was 11.724 million, and the effective number of design patents was 3.096 million. 

In January, CNIPA accepted 5,600 PCT international patent applications, and there were 5,300 applied by domestic applicants.

In January, a total of 197 international design applications were applied by Chinese applicants, and a total of 204 international design applications were published designating China.

2. Trademark

In January, the number of trademark applications in China was 0.598 million; the number of trademark registrations was 311,000. As of the end of January 2024, there were 49.953 million valid registered trademarks.

In January, CNIPA received 591 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants.

3. Geographical indications and integrated circuit layout design

In January 2025 in China, there were 1 geographical indication as collective trademark and certification mark for registration, and 776 market entities with special signs of geographical indications for use approved. As of January 2025, a total of 2,544 geographical indication products have been approved, a total of 7,403 geographical indication registrations have been approved as collective trademarks and certification marks, and 33,421 market entities have been approved to use geographical indication special signs.

In January, there were 680 applications for registration of integrated circuit layout designs in China; 675 were issued.
