Recently, the CNIPA released the October 2025 monthly statistical report on intellectual property examination, registration, and records. Compared with the period from January to October 2024, the number of invention patent grants from January to October 2025 decreased by 11.37% year-on-year, utility model patent grants dropped by 26.38% year-on-year, while design patent grants fell by 3.65%.

In terms of previously released data from the CNIPA: 

Compared with January 2024, invention patent grants in January 2025 fell by 13.93% year-on-year, utility model patent grants dropped by 4.99% year-on-year, and design patent grants rose by 10.69% year-on-year. 

Compared with the period from January to February 2024, invention patent granted from January to February 2025 declined by 15.93% year-on-year, utility model patent grants fell by 2.67% year-on-year, and design patent grants increased by 9.34%. 

Compared with the period from January to March 2024, invention patent grants from January to March 2025 decreased by 20.99% year-on-year, utility model patent grants declined by 2.73% year-on-year, and design patent grants grew by 10.07%. 

Compared with the period from January to April 2024, invention patent grants from January to April 2025 dropped by 26.02% year-on-year, utility model patent grants fell by 11.62% year-on-year, and design patent grants were up 3.95%. 

Compared with the period from January to May 2024, invention patent grants from January to May 2025 were lower 28.04% than a year before, utility model patent grants dropped by 17.79% year-on-year, and design patent grants rose by 2.77%. 

Compared with the period from January to June 2024, invention patent grants from January to June 2025 were down 28.75% from a year earlier, utility model patent grants fell by 21.71% year-on-year, and design patent grants jumped by 3.12%. 

Compared with the period from January to July 2024, invention patent grants from January to July 2025 were down 26.59% year-on-year, utility model patent grants dropped by 24.69% year-on-year, and design patent grants rose 2.05% from a year earlier. 

Compared with the period from January to August 2024, invention patent grants from January to August 2025 fell by 23.18% than a year before, utility model patent grants dropped by 26.31% year-on-year, and design patent grants increased by 3.38%. 

Compared with the period from January to September 2024, invention patent grants from January to September 2025 dropped by 16.56% year-on-year, utility model patent grants declined by 25.92% year-on-year, and design patent grants expanded at 3.38%.

So far, the number of granted invention patents and utility model patents has declined year-on-year for 9 consecutive months.
