Rules amending the Canadian Patent Rules were recently issued, for the purpose of simplifying the examination process in order to avoid unnecessary delay, including the limitation for the times of Office Action. The amendments were predetermined to be effective in early 2022, and now it will largely come into force on October 3, 2022, applying to patent applications for which a request for examination is filed on or after the date mentioned.

It should be noticed that, provisions in the amendment related to invention patent applications covering nucleotide sequence or amino acid sequence filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) which submits the sequence listing under WIPO Standard ST.26 shall come into effect as of July 1, 2022
