【GE CHENG News】WIPO releases Global Innovation Index 2025 Report, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou rank among the World's Top 100 Innovation Clusters

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 top 100 innovation clusters on September 1st, among which the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster surpassed Tokyo-Yokohama in Japan to claim top spot for the first time, ranked first globally.

The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster has been ranking second globally for five consecutive years since 2020, its rising to claim the top position this time underscores a vivid reflection of the robust vitality of scientific and technological innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA)  and the surging momentum for the development of an international science and technology innovation center.

This year, in addition to the first place, the second place was the Tokyo-Yokohama cluster, San Jose-San Francisco cluster was third, with Beijing and Seoul ranked fourth and fifth respectively, and Shanghai-Suzhou cluster, sixth.

Based on this year's data, China leads for the third consecutive year, with the most clusters (24) among the top 100, closely followed by the United States with 22 clusters. The introduction of the number of venture capital deals as a variable in this year's methodology narrows the gap between China and the United States.
