On November 5, 2025 in Shenzhen, China, OPPO, a leading global smart device manufacturer, announced it had signed a global patent licensing agreement with a major Chinese automaker, granting the automaker access to OPPO’s cellular communication Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). Under the agreement, OPPO will leverage its cellular communication standard patents to enhance the user experience of the automaker’s connected vehicle products and support its expansion in overseas markets.
This agreement represents OPPO's second publicly announced patent license with an automaker, building on its bilateral license with the Volkswagen Group. OPPO's 5G SEPs are currently distributed across more than 40 countries and regions worldwide, and according to LexisNexis® IPlytics, a leading patent analytics platform, OPPO ranked eighth globally in overall 5G patent strength as of January 2025.
Beyond cellular innovations, OPPO's proprietary VOOC flash charging technology has been adopted by over 60 automakers and has been installed in more than 10 million vehicles to date. This underscores OPPO's expanding influence in the fields of 5G and smart mobility, underpinned by its dedication to cross-industry innovation.
As of September 2025, OPPO has filed over 117,000 patent applications and holds more than 65,000 granted patents globally. OPPO continues to invest in core technology areas including 5G/6G, artificial intelligence, charging, imaging, and video, reinforcing its position as a global leader in innovation and high-value intellectual property. Looking ahead, OPPO will continue to collaborate openly with industry partners to drive innovation across connected devices and mobility ecosystems.
