【GE CHENG News】China’s Supreme People’s Court: 250,600 first-instance civil intellectual property cases accepted in the first half of 2026, a year-on-year decrease of 18.41%

In the first half of 2026, a total of 21.3165 million cases of various types were accepted by courts across China, a year-on-year increase of 1.15%. Among these, criminal and civil/commercial cases declined year-on-year, while administrative and enforcement cases saw increase.
Regarding the trial of criminal cases, 471,000 first-instance criminal cases were accepted, down 11.18% year-on-year, and 634,400 effective defendants were sentenced, a decrease of 10.11%.
In the first half of 2026, 250,600 first-instance civil intellectual property cases were accepted, a year-on-year decrease of 18.41%. The Implementation Plan for Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property Rights by the People's Courts (2026–2030) were issued by the Supreme People's Court. A total of 7,484 first-instance unfair competition dispute cases were accepted, up 9.59% year-on-year.
As for the area of enforcement, there were 5.8379 million first-instance enforcement cases accepted, a year-on-year increase of 9.90%. The rate of cases fully enforced stood at 40.86%, and the rate of actual monetary recovery reached 51.14%.
