LONGi files lawsuit against Jinko Solar in the U.S. for patent infringement of TOPCon

LONGi has filed a TOPCon patent lawsuit against Jinko Solar in the U.S.

In this lawsuit, LONGi sued Jinko Solar and its subsidiaries in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accusing the other party of infringing its patent rights, involving Jinko Solar's tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) technology and other PV module products. LONGi seeks to prohibit Jinko and its subsidiaries from selling the allegedly infringing products in the US and demands compensation for losses.

It is worth noting that this lawsuit is LONGi's legal countermeasure against Jinko Solar's previous lawsuit against it for patent infringement, marking a further escalation of the patent dispute between the two photovoltaic enterprises.

LONGi had obtained 3,166 authorized patents by the end of June 2024, which covers various technological fields including TOPCon. Based on the backdrop of the photovoltaic industry's transformation from monocrystalline PERC technology to TOPCon, patent disputes surrounding TOPCon technology are increasing worldwide, with China, Europe and the United States becoming the main battlefields for litigation.

Last year, Chinese solar manufacturer Trina Solar sued three U.S. subsidiaries of Canadian Solar in the Delaware Federal Court for allegedly infringing two of its TOPCon technology patents. Canadian Solar dismissed the lawsuit on the grounds that it lacked basis.
