5G standard essential patent families declared in China have reached 18,000

According to the recent report released by the IP Development Research Center of CNIPA, currently there are more than 210,000 5G standard essential patents declared worldwide, including 47,000 patent families (a patent family includes multiple applications in different countries in possession of common priority), in which, 18,000 patent families declared in China, accounting for nearly 40% of the global total, ranking first. The target countries or regions with the largest number of 5G standard-essential patents are: United States (46,000), China (39,000) and Europe (31,000).

 

It is also indicated in the report that among the top 15 patent applicants in the world, 7 from China companies, and the rest 8 consists of respective 2 from the United States, Japan, Europe, and South Korea. According to experts, "wireless resource management" is still the most important technical direction of 5G standard-essential patents, accounting for 46.9%, followed by access technology, multi-carrier transmission, channel coding, core network and next-generation access network, the total number of 5G standard-essential patents in these six technical directions accounted for 89.8%.
