1. Patent

In January 2024, the number of authorized invention patents in China was 73,000, the number of authorized utility model patents was 148,000, and the number of authorized design patents was 45,000.

As of the end of January 2024, the number of valid invention patents in China was 5.043 million. Among them, there were 4.068 million valid domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). The effective number of utility model patents was 12.133 million, and the effective number of design patents was 3.24 million. 

In January 2024, CNIPA accepted 5,100 PCT international patent applications, and there were 4,700 applied by domestic applicants.

In January 2024, a total of 154 international design applications were applied by Chinese applicants, and a total of 167 international design applications were published designating China.

2. Trademark

In January 2024, the number of trademark applications in China was 0.587 million; the number of trademark registrations was 380,000. As of the end of January 2024, there were 46.439 million valid registered trademarks.

In January 2024, CNIPA received 588 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants.

3. Geographical indications and integrated circuit layout design

In January 2024, in China, there were 265 geographical indications as collective trademarks and certification marks for registration, and 5,662 market entities with special signs of geographical indications for use approved. As of January 2024, a total of 2,508 geographical indication products have been approved, a total of 7,299 geographical indication registrations have been approved as collective trademarks and certification marks, and 26,663 market entities have been approved to use geographical indication special signs.

In January 2024, there were 911 applications for registration of integrated circuit layout designs in China; 902 were issued.
