CCPIT releases monthly observation report on the Global Intellectual Property Protection Index in January

On February 28th, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade held a regular press conference, at which the monthly observation report on the global intellectual property protection index for January was released.

 

The observation report on the Global Intellectual Property Protection Index in January 2024 has three main findings: 1. Regarding intellectual property policies and measures, CNIPA released the Product Classification and Code for Geographical Indication Recognition;2. The Intellectual Property Office of the United Kingdom(UKIPO) released the Industry Transparency Code on Music Streaming announced; 3. The Japan Patent Office updated the Handbook for PCT International Search and Preliminary Examination in the Japan Patent Office.

 

As for global governance of intellectual property, the World Intellectual Property Organization(WIPO) issued a notification of changes and adjustments to the designation fees of the Hague System, adjusting the relevant designation fees for Japan, Israel, and Hungary; the 1999 Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs became effective for Greece on February 13, 2024 and will come into effect for Italy on March 14, which means that all EU member states that acceded to the 1960 Hague Act have acceded to the 1999 Geneva Act.

 

In terms of international cooperation on intellectual property, the Sino-German Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program was extended; experts from the Five Trademark Offices (TM5) of China, the United States, Europe, Japan, and South Korea shared their experience in identifying and handling malicious trademark registrations.
