China ranks first in the world in the number of intellectual property applications in the fields of patents, trademarks, industrial designs

China ranked first globally in the number of invention patent applications for patents, trademarks, and industrial designs, said World Intellectual Property Indicators 2024, which was released by World Intellectual Property Organization. According to the report, global patent applications in 2023 reached a record high of over 3.5 million for the first time, which means global patent applications still realizing a fourth consecutive year of growth in the challenging macroeconomic environment.

 

China, the United States, Japan, South Korea and Germany are the countries with the largest number of patent applications in the world.

 

India's patent application ranking rises one place to the sixth, mainly driven by a sharp increase in resident patent applications supported by India's rapid economic growth.
