China's new energy vehicle industry chain data analysis report of August released

Related agencies released China's new energy vehicle industry chain data analysis report of August, which covers global and Chinese new energy vehicle markets, new energy passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, power batteries, charging and replacement, and other fields. The following is a summary of the report.

 

1. In August, the overall sales of new energy vehicles in China were 846,000, increasing 27% year-on-year, hitting a record high in single-month sales; cumulative sales from January to August were 5.374 million, growing 39.2% year-on-year, and the annual sales are expected to hit 9.5 million; a total of 78,000 new energy vehicles were exported in August, rising1.7% year-on-year; from January to August, 643,000 vehicles in total were exported, a significant increase of 110% year-on-year.

 

2. Regarding new energy passenger vehicles, 714,000 were sold in August, a year-on-year increase of 35.8% and a month-on-month growth of 11.5%. There were 7 new energy passenger vehicle enterprises having monthly sales of more than 30,000 vehicles and 8 with more than 20,000 vehicles, among which BYD ranks first with a market share of 33.6%, and Li Auto has the largest increase, reaching 663.8%.

 

3. For new energy passenger vehicle types, 21 types with the sale of over 10,000 vehicles and 8 types with more than 20,000 in August; Model Y was sold for 51,117, ranking first, and it accounts for 37.9% of the B-class car market together with Model 3; Li Auto L9’s monthly sales exceeded 10,000 for the first time, reaching 10,933, a month-on-month growth of 16%, it accounts for 29.3% of the C-class car market with L7 and L8; BYD Seagull sales continued to grow, racking up a historic record of 35,000, and it accounts for 58.3% of the A0-class car market with BYD Dolphin.

 

4. In terms of new energy commercial vehicles, 2,907 new energy medium- and heavy trucks were sold in August, increasing 57% year-on-year. 16,800 were sold cumulatively from January to August, a year-on-year growth of 25%; 27,963 new energy logistics vehicles were sold in August with small trucks accounting for 22% of total sales; from January to August, cumulative sales of new energy logistics vehicles were 144,000, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%.

 

5. Concerning power batteries, 34.9GWh was installed in August, of which lithium iron phosphate accounted for 69%, an increase of 6.6% from 2022, and ternary batteries accounted for 31%; CATL’s share was 44.3%, a decrease of 2.5% from 2022, the shares of BYD and CALB increased to 27% and 9.7% respectively; for the ranking classification, CATL accounted for 64.8% of ternary batteries; BYD accounted for 39.1% of lithium iron phosphate batteries.

 

6. As for the construction of charging and swapping facilities, the number of charging piles reached 2.272 million, with 61,000 new units added every month, and the monthly charging capacity was 3.26 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 39.8%; the number of passenger vehicle battery swapping stations increased to 3,598, of which 1,805 belong to NIO, taking up for 50.2%.
